Win emulators for Android & PB/FB
« on: February 15, 2017, 12:54:50 PM »

I happen to get the weirdest ideas sometimes to make my work easier.

I use bluestacks on my pc to run android apps like whatsapp, but has anyone used win emulators on an android tablet?
The PO Box management tool i made work like a charm, but i continuously get the need to be able to access some of its functions and data while I am busy with clients in frontline.
The lack of business technology, systems, networks etc makes for running up and down.
It would be cool if i can run a copy of the tool on a tablet and use the bluetooth function to my central printer.
It would be even better if i can have the two share data live, but with the companies poor systems and insane IT rules, chances are slim.

I hear those emulators suck in speed, but i dont know how to change a PB project to android, if even possible.
Any thoughts?

Aren't there some PowerBASIC to Android compilers/convertors? I believe so.
Search the PowerBASIC forums.
I believe PluriBASIC is one. Maybe there is still another one.

Well that's interesting....
In the PB forum it shows as an Add-on to powerbasic. Really?
It appears to be an entire different version of basic.
I assume one will have to strip the program of most windows dependent forms and buttons.
Or i can run Dosbox on Android and make a little app with PB console. ...
Will read more, will be very interesting.

Thanks for the reply.

-- As far as I know, it is not an add-on to PB. It is a completely separate and stand-alone compiler.
But the applications source code follows the PB syntax as much as possible.

That said, I haven't studied this closely, so I could be wrong.
Let us know what you find out ..

Kind regards

Pluribasic added Android apps to the list of things it can create just over a year ago. I purchased it just about a year ago. Brian (one of the owners and developers) was very helpful in getting me through the Android development setup on my computer. When I asked about bluetooth communication, he informed me that it wasn't added yet, but should be pretty easy to do.  He finished it in a couple days and it worked fine. I was pretty exited about the level of help and responsiveness I was receiving. That did wain over time and I started to bog down in my development.
As of a year ago, when I bought Pluribasic, it was not quite ready for Android app developement IMHO.  It may be better now, but I haven't tried for a year.  I did move to B4A (Basic for Android) and have been extremely happy with it.
