Title: Ubuntu (Linux)
Post by: RhodyRich on April 18, 2009, 09:11:02 PM
I've been trying out my program written with FireFly on my Ubuntu system using Wine. For the most part it seems to work fine. I did have a problem with one graph made with RMChart and I need to check into this more. MLG works fine. Other controls are working as expected. File operations seem to be okay. The Help File (CHM) is not quite right. Can't see the table of contents and clickable SHG graphics in the help file look like gibberish on the screen.

Not ideal but the program would be quite usable for someone with such a system.

I'll be doing more testing on this system but I wondered if others have any experience to share with running programs written with FireFly on Linux systems using Wine or other Windows emulation?

Dick,

I have never much luck with WINE, but I use Virtual Box (www.virtualbox.org) ,which is also free, on a daily basis and it works GREAT! So far, I haven't found anything that won't run under it.
There might be some issues if one was to run games with VB, but I don't do games. I have tried all of the Firefly examples under VB and all work fine.
I personally use Jellyfish Pro and both PB compilers almost daily with VB and have never had any issues.

HTH,
Gary
