Title: Which User Tools do you use?
Post by: Haakon Birkeland on November 13, 2009, 02:13:12 PM
The subject says it all, but feel free to add those you have defined but rarely use as well.

For now I have the following defined;

  • Visual Basic Programmer’s Guide to the Win32 API help-file! (by Daniel Appleman)
  • PowerBasic Forums - Search page
  • Planetsquires Forums - Search page

I was just setting up another User Tool for opening the current project folder, as I often like to have support documents in a subfolder of any project. But it seems to me that the parameter options are not unfolding if used in the Command Line field?!

Another issue is that having only a parameter option for the Release Directory prevents access to the other folders (Release Directory siblings) in the project as one would need to revert to the previous folder first.

If the Command Line field would unfold the parameter option for Release Directory and accept “..\subfolder” at the end, we would gain easy access to the whole project file and folder structure. â€" A Project Directory parameter option would of course also suffice.

BTW: What Current Word is returning might not be as logical to everyone as the other options, so I think it deserves a little mention in the help-file.

Oh, and there is a minor typo in this help-file sentence;
“… would backup all source files prior to are after completion of a compile”.

That reminded me of the minor typo in a brochure about the headhunters of  Borneo, where it said :

Local nativies make very good meals for visiting tourists.

where the proper wording should have been

Local nativies make very good meals of visiting tourists.

Conclusion time;

Most people don't bother with the User Tools (or sharing their usage), and those that do â€" use it almost exclusively for URL's ... 8o/

Seriously guys (and gal â€" I've seen one member with a female sounding name) don't we want more from this great power-feature Paul has put so much love and effort into?!

I want to be able to open certain folders of the project, and we have a tool posted here for moving dependency files to the release-folder, but we can probably serve more of our needs than that.

Suggestions and desires â€" small as large, are welcome!

Dont' be so harsh, FF3 is still "young" give it some time until we get used to this awesome new tool and you'll see all kinds of goodies pouring in.

Hello Haakon,
To be quit honest, I only use the GetIni example. I know it is very nice feature and I would very much like to see the expansions you have suggested.

You are aware that José's browser is available from the properties tab of the Active-X container?!

Hadn't noticed that yet. Thanks, Haakon. Hadn't done anything with it in FF3 yet.
