Title: COD MW2 - it has to be like crack!
Post by: Paul Squires on February 25, 2010, 01:35:59 PM
I have never been much of a gamer (not since Wolfenstein 3D, Quake, Doom).... but, this Christmas we bought a PS3 and a Wii.

Played RockBand for a while... pretty cool.

Got Madden 10 and NHL 10 and a few others....

...but the game that really hooked me is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. The single player is excellent but the multiplayer is even better. I have never played multiplayer online before so the whole experience has been really exciting. I am on the edge of my seat every match.

Anyway, not really sure why I'm posting this other than to say that my programming time has dipped a bit in the last couple of weeks because I am geeking out on MW2.  :)

...and Uncharted 2 - Among Theives was an awesome game as well. I played that until my eyes bled.

:)

If you like COD you should try Enemy Territory Quake Wars (http://www.activision.com/index.html#gamepage%7Cen_US%7CgameId:EnemyTerritoryQuakeWars&brandId:Quake), not your typical FPS, in this game TEAMWORK is key, I've been playing it online for 3+ years, still rocks.

It has a single player mode too but nothing beats the online experience.

I don't do much multiplayer online anymore...there are always cheaters. I do enjoy playing friends and family locally on my Gigabit LAN though.  Especially old games like the first Unreal Tournament and the original Half-Life that really fly on today's machines, and maxed out graphics with no lag! Half-Life 2 and Crysis are fun too...although probably better if I had two cards. My Top of the Line 8800 GT doesn't appear to be Top of the Line anymore. It still plays all the Command and Conquer stuff good though (Old and New).

If you have a Wii, get Mario Kart.  Online with friends is fun, but internet is full of cheating idiots that get unlimited items and other little tricks. We are hooked on the Wii Ware 8 Player Bomberman now too though. Usually will find us with one of those of Sports Resort.

We got a Wii for Christmas as well. I got the PS3 and she got the Wii. How's that for a pair of Christmas gifts! :)  I'm supposed to finished renovating the basement for a "games room" - that's been two years in the making. Ha!

I've only played Mario Kart a few times with her. I'm not much into the whole Mario stuff but she loves it. She's been a Nintendo fangirl forever. I don't think that she's played it online yet.

I bought a pair of Tritton AX720 headphones. Got them yesterday. Certainly makes the gaming experience much more immersive.

It's been a long time since I played games this much. I feel like a little kid again (granted, the little kids online are kicking my butt in just about every game).

This is all a nice distraction from programming non-stop 24 hours a day. It makes getting into the FireFly code much more enjoyable rather than sometimes being a chore.

Wii â€" My initial thought would be something is cooking, at least in someones head. 8oÞ

When I went for a console choice PS(2) was for kids and XBox was for their parents, now it's pretty much the same "shait". What bothers me is that we both have exclusive titles, cause I'm not gonna get a PS in addition to my 360.

Modern Warfare was good, and the next "episode" had something to live up to â€" especially after the media hype. It did! Now I'm looking forward to Bad Company II where the hype indicates an even better experience ...

After playing MW2 and then Fuel of War, the realism of MW makes the cartoony look of the latter less of a joy to spend time on. Half Life I didn't even bother to finish ...

I have yet to experience a 5.1 headset, but sending the rest of the family away and turning the stereo to 11 makes my night.
