I would like to be able to pin the FF Workplace window in place and have it always visible (I haven't found out if I can do that now). I find myself always having to reopen it.

Have you tried the following setting:

Tools - Environment Options - Code Editor - Auto Hide Workspace

May that setting will do what you need.
