Hello Paul,
Have seen you released FF3 for FreeBASIC. Nice. I wonder why you chose to make it free. Got enough income allready ;) ;)
Was going to install it but I wonder what would happen if I did. Having a version for PB that is.
Marc
Yeah, I'm rolling in the money!!!! :D (I wish)
I have been promising a FreeBASIC version for a long time. That market is very different than the commercial PB market. I doubt that many FB users would want to pay and I have no interest in trying, given that the compiler is free...and open source.
FreeBASIC still has some growing to do but it is a very good language. It has several capabilities that PB does not. Granted, it is not as solid as PB but for an open source project it is light years ahead of 99% of the BASIC's out there.
Of course, my main driver is producing and supporting PB/FireFly customers. That's what FireFly users pay for and expect.
The FreeBASIC may never catch on with that community - only time will tell. ...and before anyone asks, I am not considering offering FF for any other language at this point. :)
OK,
I have been monitoring FB also but the lack of updates in almost 2 years is not very promising.
What about my seconds question. Will I be able to install FF3 for FB without any problems?
Marc
Yes, there has not been any official updates in a long time but I use the latest builds from the svn. The version I use is 0.21.
I use both versions of FF on my system with no problems. However, not sure if the "My Documents" install will work because it would result in your settings ini files being shared. I use the "local" install option and everything works perfectly as far as I can tell.
