Title: Fred Meier is dead
Post by: Rolf Brandt on February 05, 2013, 01:41:49 PM
This real sad news.

Fred Meier, the creator of the SQLitening project - a Client-/Server implementation of the SQLite database system - died on January 9, 2013 at the age of 75 years. Fred had suffered a heart attack and died immediately as his wife Lynda told me yesterday.

Many users of SQLitening will miss him, his experience, his great support, his friendly way of helping out. I had contact with Fred by email and once in a while we chatted on the telephone. I still remember the first time when I called him. Since I live in Germany he told me: "You are lucky, I almost did not pick up the phone. That number looked odd." Glad he did pick it up, it resulted in a one hour conversation. I will miss our little chats, his enthusiasm, and his humor.

Fred lived in Littleton, CO.

This is the link to the obituary:

You can post your condolences there. The site also has some pictures of Fred with his grandchildren.

(John 5:28) Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice.

This is very sad news. I emailed Fred often a few years ago when we were trying to SQLitening off the ground and give it a home. He was such a calm, gentle, and giving person. I didn't realize he was in his 70's. He will be missed.

I used SQLitening in a few projects. I never knew the face behind the code nor that he was in his 70's. Yes he will be missed. Another sad day.
