Title: Thanks from a 'FireFly Family Member'
Post by: David Warner on April 26, 2015, 06:48:00 AM
Hi Paul,

I have just downloaded, installed and tested FireFly 3 for FreeBASIC and feel compelled to say a very big thank you!

Your generosity is greatly appreciated here and I think the obvious and genuine warmth in the opening lines of your FireFly help file is truly admirable.

QuoteWelcome Aboard!

So, jump in and start using FireFly. You won't be disappointed. You will see your productivity skyrocket and your day to day enjoyment of programming become much more pleasurable.

... and best of all, you will be part of the FireFly Family!   :-)

That is such a nice sentiment. I know that I rarely post in the forum however, I do visit and keep up with your progress and I have always enjoyed following your efforts since you first released FireFly. The fact that you have now built a FreeBASIC version and freely give it away is simply amazing.

Paul Squires, you are definitely one of the 'Good Guys'. Well done sir!

All the Best,

David

Hi David,

That is very kind of you to say and you put a huge smile on my face!  :)

I have a lot planned for my FreeBASIC tools. My biggest roadblock is the amount of time that I devote to programming. I am trying to increase it but I have been slow in re-igniting my programming passion. I have some additions planned for FB-FireFly that I need to complete (ie DLL and LIB creation). I am also working on a grid control built using FB's OOP features and will be available as source code, DLL and static LIB. I find that just about every project I write requires some type of grid control so having an open source grid available to all FB users will be very beneficial in the long run.

I'm glad to hear my message had the desired effect and put a smile on your face Paul. :)  I completely understand your roadblock comment, it's certainly a good idea to spend time away from the keyboard now and again. The FreeBASIC project seems quite vibrant and I can see why you released FireFly for it (I also think a grid would be a pretty useful addition). I'm interested to know more about FreeBASIC and will be taking a look into its multi-platform and Unicode capabilities for a start. I just love tinkering with new stuff so there seems to be quite a lot of fun to be had around here!
