For the life of me, I cannot find any information on this forum regarding custom control integration and the creation of the custom control xml files.
I am trying to integrate the Farpoint Spread 7 dll control into the firefly toolbox, I have the dll and inc file, however I need to create the xml file. Can anyone give me some information on this subject.
Thanks
I am not at my development machine ast present but there is a folder in the FF folder with a custom control sample. I think!!!
Do you mean the Custom Control XML Kit folder? I hadn`t noticed that before.
I just had a quick look at the inc files. Are they supposed to be just guidlines, or are you supposed to do something with these files. Is there a way to automate the process, or is it just a matter of reading the inc files and creating the xml file by hand?
I have not really looked at it myself. I think it is just a starting block and you have to create your own xml file etc.
Once Paul gets online, I am sure he will help you further.
One point to bear in mind is that with the recent problem I have had getting EGrid to work with FF, Paul mentioned in another thread that he is changing the way custon controls are integrated with FF.
It has been reworked already, so hold the XML work until the next release of FireFly - currently in a late beta stage. At present time there are no official details available about how the controls are integrated in it's new format. This information will assumeably be available with the upcoming release. A tool for creating the correct interface for 3rd party controls, according to the new format, is on the wishlist.
Hi Gary,
There have been lots of changes in the area of 3rd party custom controls. They no longer use XML. I am simplifying many aspects of using custom controls in the hope of making it easier for other developers to create and/or integrate controls into the FireFly Toolbox.
Once the next release of FireFly comes out, I hope better explain how the new integration files are created.
Hang in there.
Thats excellent news. Sounds like a great product is going to get even better.
I will hold off on the custom control integration then, until the next release.
Any timeframes on this one? No pressure, I just mean are we looking at weeks or months?
Gary
Week(s) at the most. ;)
Once paul finishes doing his magic with FF, i will post new samples for firefly. Due to the amount of work i have, i forgot to put a sample for firefly. Sorry about that.
Elias :)
