I guess everyone must be wondering what is going on with FireFly3? Well, it has been an off and on programming adventure for several months now. Lots of real life stuff getting in the way: I got engaged, sold my house, and have almost got a new house built (move in just before Christmas). Throw on top of that a busier than normal work schedule in my day to day job and it results in a software update that is greatly behind schedule.

Having said that, FireFly 3 has come a long, long way. It is fully written in FireFly 2 and is a joy to program. Most of the hard stuff is done although I have decided today to totally scrap a system of docking windows that would handle the FireFly Workspace windows. I thought that I liked it at first but after using it on a real world example, I found that it was a little too clunky. I intend to go back to the old style FireFly Workspace.

Rest assured, FireFly3 will happen... it will just take a little while longer. :)

Thanks for the update, Paul. Hope your "real life stuff" all comes out the way you want...

Happy to hear how well FF2>>FF3 is working.

IMHO, I'm happier with a good product delivered later than a poor product delivered sooner. The poor product would just generate problems that would detract from the eventual fix, and would leave customers unhappy. Not a good scenario for anyone.

So, you have my vote of support for "better trumps faster". And let me know (via direct email) if I can help out with dox or testing.

Paul, Thanks for the info/status update.  Knowing the reasons behind delays helps the customer to be understanding.   I look forward to the new FF3 when ever you release it.  I know it will be a great product!

Good luck in your new life.  Hope you can still fit in a little programming.  You have a real talent for it.  Firefly, jellyfish and cheetah rock.

Thanks guys. I still program a fair bit, just not as much as I used to. I fully expect to start programming more real soon. I move into my new house on December 20 so once that happens all of the stressful stuff will be over with.

I agree on the waiting...FF and Phoenix both got off with a rough start because of some early bugs...then that "other guy" jumped in.  I'd much rather see the visual designers keeping to the PB Way of not requiring DLLs to jump to the front.
