Paul,  is possible you can buy the PowerBasic Compiler?...May be that PowerBasic can continue ... maybe with a different name but the same essence.  I always thought that Bob Zale never merged with PowerBasic Firefly. (not if you try sometime).  Now that PowerBasic have problems and has even ended, because think of rescue?.   I Not much it will cost but someone has tried it?.

Hi Israel, I do not have the programming knowledge to create, maintain or develop further a compiler written in Assembly Language. It's been 14 months since Bob Zale passed away. I'd expect that anyone with the necessary programming and business skills would have come forward by now and saved the company. I have no expectations that we will ever see another version of PB ever produced.

I have been away for a couple of years and would like to get back into PowerBasic and Firefly.

At my first glance, it seems like the PowerBasic team is on their way back with some new/old blood.

I am asking you for an informal analysis and you opinion.  Do you think there could be another version of PB?

Thanks,

Peter,

Personally with Gary gone and Tom absent (last on April 13) I don't think so.

My informal opinion is that I gave up long ago waiting for news of any new PB versions. The entire transition since Bob's death has been terrible. A few dedicated PB'ers such as Gary and Eric have managed to keep at least a semblance of a presence on the internet for the compiler. There is a new forum and online ordering now so I guess that's something.

If there was ever a time when PB should get rid of that nonsense 'no vaporware' policy, it should be now.

Personally, I have moved on to FreeBasic.

No, there will be no open source version of FireFly (PB or FB). I may eventually build another visual designer as an addon to the editor I am building.
