I have a successful Firefly created utility program I supply to my customer base. I have received feedback that my customers would like an option provided where the utility can be instructed to autorun/autostart upon Windows starting or when the computer is rebooted, the option should also provide for cancelling this direction if required.

I envisage including a check button option that the user can check that causes the utility to autostart or not the next time the computer is started.

Is there a location you have to load with the program's name and path?? or something like this. I remember the DOS days with the old Autoexec.bat file but then I am begining to give away my age.

I havn't a clue where to begin on this and would appreciate any ideas anyone can give to guide me in the right direction.

First two places that come to mind are:

1 - Put a shortcut in for (XP)  in 'Documents and Settings\userprofile\Start Menu\Programs\Startup'

or

2 - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Hi Jim,

Thank you for the pointers here, I am already on to the Registry Option.

I love this stuff because there is always something new to learn.   ;D
