ADO (Driver/Provider) Functionality

This is more of a 'troubleshooting' question.

Is there a way to 'test' Driver/Provider functionality prior to the program connecting to data source?

Sort of the program confirming that it can 'talk/use' the driver or provider before connecting.

Anyone done that? (Previously posted in wrong forum - apologies to Admin)
