Hey Guys, hope you all had a good easter,  err and probably xmas since the last time I posted.

Is there a few bugs with regards to saving/ loading projects in the 2.86 version.
I am finding to work around it to have to close firefly and open different projects from scratch rather than using the open menu.
Paul.

So far I haven't had any problems loading/saving projects. It has run perfectly with respect to those aspect of the IDE. I've double clicked, as well as loaded from within.

Can you tell use how you experienced this problem? So we know what *not* to do.. hehe

paulDiagnos

hehe, In that Case Don't ....

- press the open folder icon on the task bar.
sometimes firefly will just exit

-press file, open project, then click save.
sometimes firefly with just close.

it seems to happen more often when you load a new project decide its the wrong one so load the next one without really editing for compiling the old.

Cheers Paul.

Yea, I've noticed it a couple times but figured that it was my anti-virus
or anti-spyware interfering. Tried various combinations of open/close via
the File menu or reopen from the previous projects or close the project then
close FF. then reopen FF and try different choices until the project stays
and FF runs. but I haven't switched projects a lot lately and didn't
note exactly what I did to correct the problem. As I thought it was caused
by something else running on my system.

I thought i was the only one getting that... i have got it like 3 or 4 times. :)

Hmmm Seems like it happens more often when you close a big project and try to open another...

Tyrone Lee

I never get the error and I have a "big" project, I guess.  :P Don't really know what you mean by "big." Well, I'm glad I haven't seen this error. Not saving/corrupting a project is a "deal breaker" for software development.

good at least I know its not just me!
didnt think it was the anti virus or anything though.

I only have AVG running.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the reports. I haven't noticed any sudden crashing so maybe it is a combination of certain project elements and a sequence of of events (loading, saving, switching projects...) that is causing the crash. I will keep an eye open to it. If any of you can replicate the problem then please let me know and I will track down a fix for it.

paulDiagnos

Now i have brought it up I cant make it do it.. oh well next time it happens il have a think to what is going on.

I have probably one of the biggest FireFly projects on the planet and I have not found any issues with the IDE if I use some care (see below).  For smaller projects I have never had any issues.  My guess is you have something "external" that is interacting and creating the crash or you use the IDE with big projects or lots of little ones without restarting it.

I can have a problem with the FF IDE if I open too many big forms.  On this "mega" project if I need to work on every form I have to do part, save, exit, and come back.  There are probably over 1,000 controls counting labels.  Some sort of memory thing I suppose.  Hey I only have a couple of gigs of RAM  ::)

Do you load and save many different projects without exiting FF?  It may create the same effect as I have seen for my "mega" project and too many forms.

When the problem occurs (opening too many big forms) FF does not generate the correct code and it won't compile.  I have even seen it appear to lose my added code (but it was really there).  A few times when I first discovered the issue I actually had to reboot.  I never have the problem if I don't load too many forms into memory.

I generally try to save (when I am done for a session) AFTER closing most of the forms.  This avoids re-opening lots of un-necessary forms on the next load.

Food for thought.

I think FF3 changes much of the memory handling and will eliminate this issue.

paulDiagnos

I know I allow the multiple FF's to be open, perhaps thats it.

as for external programs, i don't have any , they all run internally on my PC :)

sorry couldn't resist.

Tyrone Lee

hehe

Do you know how people (trolls) come to your site/project and flame it to tell you how "lame" your work is? Well I'm going to do the opposite.

You guys are idiots.. FF has never crashed for me.. Its probably the best PowerBASIC editor I've seen.. It took me a little time to get used to it, but now that I am comfortable, it has replace VB in my book. That said, stop being luzers with these FAKE bug reports.. (Yea.. you too Paul!) FF is awesome!!!!!

lol..

How did I do? Did I effectively capture the actions of a psuedo-troll?

As a programmer I am actually happy for people to report bugs.
getting feed back is always good.

as for being a troll, i see myself more as a monkey on a type writer.
